A guy was coughing for the majority of the runtime in the theater of the screen recording I watched of this online and that’s enough of a reason for why it wasn’t worth risking my life to see this extremely mediocre and forgettable flick in theaters. Even just the fact that this movie is finally getting released in the middle of a goddamn pandemic shows that it’s maybe the unluckiest movie of all time. Definitely not the absolute shit show I expected from a movie that’s been delayed for nearly 3 years and that exists in a defunct cinematic universe but it’s just so fucking generic. It’s a real shame because the whole idea of The Breakfast Club and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest with mutants should be really awesome but this is just executed with no flavor, style or originality. Also, there’s just so much forced teen angst that makes it feel more like a YA flick instead of a Marvel installment and it never fully indulges in its horror elements. The performances are pretty good though, especially from Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy. And you can tell they definitely tried to create some compelling character moments but there’s just not enough to truly make you care. Also, that Logan connection was pretty cool and surprising as was the bear scene at the end. I really don’t understand why they didn’t just dump this on Disney+ though. They’re doing it with Mulan which is so weird because people would probably pay to see that in a theater but with this movie it’s the exact opposite.
