Brilliantly written and a fascinating character study that was SO ahead of its time. I love how weird and wacky it is, especially for a 50s film, and how it explores the inner workings of Hollywood and the reality behind all the façades. And of course, both Gloria Swanson and William Holden are PHENOMENAL. But the real MVP here is Max the butler. I mean, the dude deserves credit for dealing with a lunatic and a neurotic for the whole movie.
