I really enjoyed the first half or so of this for it’s exploration of the loss of innocence and I was mildly entertained throughout but as it goes along it becomes more contrived and I hated the punchline. Or wait. Was there a punchline? I don’t even know. The last act basically drops all of the emotion and Joel never really has an arc or changes. There’s no real payoff. I enjoyed Tom Cruise’s performance and I love the 80s feel and the soundtrack featuring The Police and Phil Collins but overall, this was really disappointing.
