I definitely liked this way more on second viewing. I’ll probably like it even more the next time I watch it. I think that actually speaks to the merit of the film. It’s challenging and extremely subtle. It just takes some time to fully appreciate it. Amazing cinematography and one of the best scores ever. One of De Niro’s best performances also.

I definitely liked this one but I don’t really see why it’s considered a masterpiece or even one of Scorsese’s best films. I love the score and De Niro’s performance. It also has some of the best camerawork and editing I’ve ever seen and there’s definitely some interesting character study but I was never quite as engaged as I wanted to be. Maybe this is one I’ll have to revisit in a few years.
