Overall, I have to say I was underwhelmed by this. I loved Jim Carrey’s performance and I appreciated Michel Gondry’s offbeat style and the themes he explores but I found the film to be pretty incoherent and kind of a mess. I also couldn’t stand Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst and especially Elijah Wood’s characters and I didn’t see the need to focus on them. But I did enjoy the last 20 minutes which were considerably more emotionally involving. The idea of erasing a loved one from your mind is simply haunting and I love the idea that life will you lead you to the people you’re meant to be with.
