I’m really disappointed. Céline just isn’t likable anymore and their relationship isn’t likable anymore. Hell, if I were Jesse I’d want a divorce. I understand that Linklater is trying to explore how love changes as people grow older and that worked perfectly in Sunset but here it just feels like the life has been sucked out of it. The hopeful and romantic nature from the first two films is completely missing here and instead it feels incredibly cynical to the point where I’m feeling cynical about marriage now. And for the first time Jesse and Céline’s conversations are just not interesting and the dialogue feels somewhat forced.
